Britannica Beyond Editor Dashboard
Timeline: 1 Month
My Role: User Research, Strategy, UX, UI
Team: Myself and one other designer, plus a product manager
Tools: Adobe XD
The Challenge
When I first came on board in February 2020, Britannica Beyond was live but was only accepting questions from users, and answers from editors. Editors did not have hours per day to answer every question on the site, so the idea was to design and implement a dashboard for editors to moderate user generated content on the site
Solution
We successfully implemented the dashboard to allow for easy moderation of user questions and answers, while users were made aware of the status of their submitted content.
Process
Defining the User
We started by meeting with the Britannica Editorial team and asking questions to figure out how they were using the platform currently and how they would like to be able to answer questions and moderate content.
Research
Since getting into site moderation tools in order to perform a proper competitive analysis was not easy, we instead looked into various other dashboard based tools and began to sketch and wireframe out layouts for our dashboard.
Moderation
Submitted answers would be shown first in the pending menu, where editors could choose to accept or reject an answer. Once either option was chosen, it would then either appear onsite, or only appear in the rejected section of the editor dashboard if rejected.
Reported Answers
Non Editor User View
Users would now be able to go to their profile page, and see the status of answers they had submitted.
Defining Success
Though we didn’t actually conduct user testing with editors, we solicited feedback on the dashboard and found pain points as they arose. Continuing to iterate on editor features as needed.
